Double Gold 2007 International Eastern Wine Competition Silver 2007 Orange County Fair Wine Competition Silver 2007 Riverside International Wine Competition
AROMAS: The 2005 Central Coast Viognier immediately sends forth a perfume of honeysuckle and citrus blossoms. Once in the glass these aromas are accompanied by peach, melon, buttered toast, and rich tropical fruits.
FLAVORS: A mix of tart mango, peach, grapefruit with a rich creamy texture, this is a luscious treat that showcases how Viognier can be both big and rich yet soft and supple when handled gently. The moderate acidity and full fruit flavors make this a perfect wine for pairing with a variety of foods from rich shellfish, chicken, tart salads or fresh fruit.
Shy and difficult to grow yet charismatic and full in the glass, Viognier is quickly becoming the next loved white by many. A somewhat unknown varietal here in the United States, Viognier’s popularity has grown tremendously in the last few years due to its versatility, intense aromatics, and bright fruit flavors. Some even consider it to be the next Chardonnay. While its name is a mouthful so is the wine; just say…vee-own-yay.
Bridlewood’s 2005 Central Coast Reserve Viognier is the result of blending six unique vineyards. The vineyards scattered across the Central Coast were selected by winemaker David Hopkins for their own unique ‘terroir’. The grapes were harvested on different days, each at the peak of ripeness and whole cluster pressed to avoid inclusion of bitter skin components. After initial cold settling, the grapes were racked, fermented and aged in stainless steel. Bridlewood’s Rhone style 2005 is truly one of a kind.
The 2005 Central Coast Reserve Viognier expresses an aromatic bouquet of honeysuckle and orange blossom, accompanied by aromas of melon, buttered toast and rich tropical fruits. The flavors are a blend of tart mango, peach, and grapefruit with a creamy texture. This is a luscious treat that showcases how Viognier can be, both, big and rich, yet soft and supple. The moderate acidity and full fruit flavors make this a perfect wine for pairing with rich foods such as lobster, crab, abalone or a more casual fare such as pâté, fresh fruit and a variety of hard and soft cheeses.
The 2005 growing season experienced early bud break in February, rainfall in the spring and early summer and a lengthy harvest which continued well into November. The long, cool growing season of 2005 was ideal for developing premium white grapes, such as Viognier, with good complexity, maturity and flavor.
