SOLD OUT! 93 Points - Robert Parker
The single-vineyard 2003 Brunello di Montalcino La Casa is simply gorgeous. Ripe dark fruit, spices, leather and sweet toasted oak all flow from this ample, generous wine. The plumpness of the fruit is beautifully balanced by the wine's structural components, which show an added level of richness over the regular bottling. Caparzo's La Casa is a very satisfying glass of Brunello in 2003. Readers won-t want to miss this wine, which is one of the standouts of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2018.
In recent years I-ve often found Caparzo's wines to be irregular so its nice to see this venerable estate come through with two outstanding Brunellos.
The Caparzo name seems to originate from Ca Pazzo, as seen in several ancient maps. The vineyards, cellers and all wine making equipment were developed towards the end of the 1960s, with progressive adaptation and constant up dating of both the land and the cellars. Innovative cultivation systems and, in particular, several clones are still experienced today on the estates extending over an area of 190 hectares comprising 85 hectares of vineyards, 4 of olive groves, 87 of woodlands and 14 of sowable land.
Caparzo aims to ensure top quality products through meticulous, craftsmanlike techniques while equality taking a modern approach to management, an efficiency and business relationships. More that thirty years have passed since the first rows were planted in the vineyards and the various local terrors, at the same time as enhancing its wines with creative sprit and dedication to innovation as a means of ensuring the highest possible quality. This is why wines are served by the most famous restaurants in the world, as well as at international meetings and on official State occasions.
Tasting Notes:A floral and perfumed nose, with raspberries and blackberries. Full-bodied, with racy tannins and a dense yet refined palate. A little tight still. Give it a little more bottle age. Best after 2010. 1,665 cases made.
Sub-Region: Brunello di Montalcino
