Lucia 2009 Syrah, Susan's Hill, Santa Lucia Highlands, California Wine, 750ml
The 2009 Syrah Susan’s Hill, from a parcel within Pisoni, sees an extended maceration that lasts 25-30 days. It is a deep, inky wine bursting with dark fruit, spices, licorice and leather. It has more than enough inner sweetness, density and sheer opulence to balance its tannin's and 30% new barrels. The Susan’s Hill was fermented with 20% new clusters.

This 2009 Lucia Syrah, Garys' Vineyard, is deep garnet in color. Its beautiful aromas leap out of the glass and display a melange of boysenberry, sage, dried lavender, rose petal, stone fruit and red peppercorn. On the palate, the wine is very focused, following a tight core of soft tannins and firm acidity that evolves to a gentle finish. This Syrah opens up even more with decanting or aeration in the glass. Drink now through 2020.

The 2009 Lucia Syrah, Susan’s Hill, is dark violet in color. The aromas give way to the richness of the wine: blackberries, spring flowers, spiced plums, leather and soy. The palate has immense power and density, which are balanced by the structure, exhibiting layers and layers of broad tannins that flow into a remarkably long finish. The Syrah will age well through 2020.

The Santa Lucia Highlands cuvee displays bright aromatics more centered around fruit characteristics: White peach, green mango, citrus and pineapple. The texture is rich and full-bodied with a gentle finish. Very approachable, flavorful and a great representation of Santa Lucia Highlands.
