Kukkula 2010, Noir (89%syrah, 11%Counoise), Paso Robles, 750ml
The appropriately named 2010 Noir boasts considerable depth and power while retaining an essentially medium bodied personality. Dark plums, cherries, mint, and new leather out on the powerful, insistent finish. Noir is predominantly Syrah, with 11% Counoise. There is plenty of personality and sheer character in the glass.

Lucia 2009 Syrah, Susan's Hill, Santa Lucia Highlands, California Wine, 750ml
The 2009 Syrah Susan’s Hill, from a parcel within Pisoni, sees an extended maceration that lasts 25-30 days. It is a deep, inky wine bursting with dark fruit, spices, licorice and leather. It has more than enough inner sweetness, density and sheer opulence to balance its tannin's and 30% new barrels. The Susan’s Hill was fermented with 20% new clusters.

Melville 2009, Estate Pinot Noir, Sta. Rita Hills, California Wine, (375 ml)
Darker and richer in color than its sibling, this wine exudes a more complex and concentrated profile. Fresh fruit aromatics of black cherry, black raspberry and blood orange mix with pretty nuances of sandalwood, rose petal and gardenia. Spices reminiscent of cinnamon, salt-water taffy, rhubarb and dried herbs complete the background. The mouthfeel is dense and spherical offering a broad palate sensation while maintaining its restraint. The finish is savory with plenty of persistence and volume.

Muga 2011, Rioja Rosado, Rioja, Spain, 750ml
90 pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2012
The 2011 Muga Rose is a blend of around 60% Garnacha, 30% Viura and 10% “other” varieties and Jorge Muga was at pains to point out that the vines are specifically cultivated for the rose and not the bi-product of another red. It has a delightful light rose petal and orange blossom bouquet that has great definition and subtlety. The palate is fresh and very well-balanced with crisp citrus fruit inflected with apricot, rosewater and white peach. This is one of the finest Rioja rose wines you will find.

Pahlmeyer 2009 Merlot, Napa Valley, California, 750ml
94 Points Wine Spectator

Palmina 2010 Alisos (80% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot), Santa Barbara County, California Wine, 750ml
As always, the first clue as to the depth of Alisos is the deep garnet color. A swirl emits aromas of red fruit and spice that mingle with earthy nuances. The bouquet of boysenberry, grated fresh nutmeg and hints of loam invite a first sip that delivers layers of fresh and dried fruit notes to the palate. The first impression is textural, with velvety tannins and lively acidity mingling and accenting fruit notes of plum, mulberry, dark cherry and herbal notes of sage and lavender. High-tone notes are provided by the Sangiovese, with the Merlot adding structure and a dark base, all brought together on the mid-palate by the dried Sangiovese’s pleasing dried plum note with hints of fresh brioche. Elegant tannins are represented by a suggestion of baker’s chocolate and sarsaparilla on the lingering, persistent finish.
